There is a soul-crushing belief in the legal profession that glorified toughness and lack of sleep are badges of honor. Working 15 hour days and into the weekend is the industry norm, because, hey, that’s what lawyers do.
Lawyers love to wear the ‘busy button’, posting about how little sleep we got before trial or Instagramming that being a superhero isn’t a job title so we settled for lawyer. I know because I used to be one of those lawyers. But do you see the not-so-subtle message? If you want to be successful at this, you need to put in superhuman effort.
If you’re not overwhelmed and time-starved, you aren’t a real lawyer.
